BELMONT STAKES BLUE RIBBON 5 KILOMETER RUN FOR PROSTATE CANCER TO OFFER FREE ENTRIES TO  BOSTON MARATHON NON-FINISHERS

 The organizers of the 2^nd annual “Belmont Stakes Blue Ribbon 5 Kilometer Run for Prostate Cancer,” to be held on Sunday evening, June 2^nd at Belmont Park, have announced that any runner who was unable to finish this year’s Boston Marathon will be given free entry into the Belmont Stakes Prostate Cancer Run.

In a joint statement issued by Integrated Medical Foundation,  the New York Racing Association, Inc. and the Greater Long Island Running Club, IMF Executive Director Rhonda Samuel noted that “we feel the pain of those runners who trained for many months for this year’s Boston  Marathon and were unable to finish, and we invite those runners to finish their race as our guests here at beautiful Belmont Park on June 2^nd.”

Bill Rodgers, the man who personifies the Boston Marathon – himself being a four time winner – has prostate cancer.  Rodgers has run the Boston Marathon a total of 17 times.  “I’d run for something larger than myself” he says in his autobiography after being treated for prostate cancer.   

“On June 2^nd, we will be running for prostate cancer…the disease which will afflict 1 in 6 American men in their lifetime and kill 32,000 of the men you love each year,” said Eric Mitchnick, MD of Advanced Urology Centers of New York  and President of Integrated Medical Foundation.

 ”As a testament to the goodwill and community spirit of runners which Bill Rodgers personifies,   we invite all those who were unable to complete the Boston marathon to run our 5K on June 2^nd  as our guests,”  said Rhonda Samuel, Executive Director of Integrated Medical Foundation and founding race director of  The Belmont Stakes “Blue Ribbon  Run for Prostate Cancer.”  Samuel continued,  “Our heart goes out to those injured or lost in the senseless attack at the Boston Marathon. We are grateful to our sponsors, Advanced Radiation Centers of New York,   Abbvie,  as well as Advanced Urology Centers of New York for their support and hope that those Boston marathoners  who could not finish, will complete  their run with us.”

 The Run will be a prelude to the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes six days later. 

 The entire net proceeds will go to benefit the Integrated Medical Foundation  and its mission to promote awareness and early detection of prostate cancer as well as support services for those affected by this disease.

State Senator Encourages Uninsured / Insured Local Men to Get Regular Check Ups 

(Queens, NY) – On Monday, April 15, NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. and Integrated Medical Foundation are cosponsors of a free prostate cancer screening done by Dr. Riccardo Ricciardi from Advanced Urology Centers of New York – Flushing West. The screening is open to men ages 40 and older who have not been previously treated for prostate cancer, regardless of whether they have insurance. Appointments are recommended; however, walk-ins are accepted.

The event will take place at Martin Luther High School, 60-02 Maspeth Avenue in Maspeth, from 4 PM – 6 PM.

The health check-up will include a PSA blood test and a digital rectal exam. The patients will be notified of the testing results by bringing a stamped, self-addressed envelope. It is important for patients to also bring their physician’s name and address on a separate paper. Patients must also bring a photo ID with an address (e.g., driver’s license).

 Gary Oshinsky, MD, was  the recipient of Integrated Medical Foundation’s  Founders Award at the “Blue Ribbon Awards Gala”  held on March 20^th, 2013 at the Village Club at Lake Success.  HealthTronics Corporation received  the “Corporate Blue Ribbon Award.”

 Integrated Medical Foundation  (IMF), is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization whose mission is prostate cancer early detection, education and support. With prostate cancer being the second most prevalent form of cancer in men after skin cancer, the goal of IMF is to provide the community with critical information about the disease; offering free prostate cancer screenings, free support groups,  and public education about the importance of early detection of prostate cancer.

Gary Oshinsky, MD, is a board certified urologist, past president and one of the founders of IMF.  “I am honored to have received this award from Integrated Medical Foundation,” said Dr. Oshinsky. “My career has been dedicated to promoting awareness and early detection of prostate cancer. On Tuesday, February 5, 2013, Integrated Medical Foundation, in conjunction with Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. and Bostwick Laboratories, sponsored a free prostate cancer screening program at the Bellmore Public Library. Screenings were generously provided by Eric Thall, M.D. of AUCNY – Long Beach and Rockville Centre. A special thank you to Dr. Thall, who performed over 80 screenings in just two hours!

Men who participated in the program received a free prostate cancer screening, regardless of whether or not they had insurance.

Prostate Cancer is the most common form of cancer among men, after skin cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime.
